In this straight-ahead jazz series, we curate a vibrant set of performances for the true jazz fan in you. This month, we present classic jazz pianist Charles Craig, in a tribute to his early mentor, Ramsey Lewis.
Jazz pianist, three-time Grammy winner, and NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis, who successfully crossed over from the jazz charts to the pop charts, with songs like “The ‘In’ Crowd”, “Wade in the Water”, and “Sun Goddess”. His swinging jazz piano style, rooted in classical training, infused with gospel and popular R&B, and coupled with an elegant stage presence, made Lewis an international sensation. Expanding his career through teaching, programming, and work in radio and television, he is recognized as an ambassador for jazz.
