Wednesday, July 3International recording saxophonist Art Sherrod has a respect for music and a heart for the spiritual world that are voiced equally through his instrument.

“The Soul Trumpeter” Lin Rountree is an innovator in instrumental soul R&B, with 21 Chart Topping Billboard singles and numerous collaborations with some of the industry’s top Contemporary Jazz artists.

Through their extensive collaborations, these two musicians discovered a kinship in their innovative grooves and ability to make a heartfelt connection through the music.  3-Alarm Fire features this dynamic smooth jazz duo Art Sherrod and Lin Rountree, as they aim to set the stage on fire.

Art Sherrod Jr is “…a man who loves music, a man who loves art, respects the spirit world and thinks with his heart.”  He feels his love for music and faith have been molded, as if God gave him an extra dose of expression through his music.

Growing up in Texas, Art enjoyed everything from Country & Western, to Rock N’ Roll, Rap, Hip-Hop, to Gospel and of course Jazz.  But it all began in church, sitting alongside his amazing mother who sang and played the B-3 organ and father who sang in the male chorus.

During Art’s four-year tenure as a midshipman attending the US Naval Academy, few people knew he was a musician. But shortly after his time at the academy, Art felt a strong desire to tap back into his creative side again through his saxophone.  Influenced by the likes of David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, Kim Waters and other notables, he appreciates their strong melodies, grooves, tone and soulful expressiveness.

In 2005, Art released his freshman project entitled “All 4 Love” which featured a unique arrangement of the Hall and Oates mega hit, Sara Smile.

In 2009 Art released his second project, “Seasons”. This project featured a laundry list of industry superstars like Will Downing, Chuck Loeb, Gerald Albright, Frank McComb, Tracy Hamlin, Marcus Johnson, U-Nam, Alex Al and others.

From there, Art went on to create his dream Gospel Jazz project, “Intervention”, which breaks from the expected with tracks that highlight Art’s roots in Gospel, Jazz, R&B and Funk.  His most recent CD “Feel So Good” was released in January of this year.

Throughout Art’s music, he seeks to inspire, heal, speak to the soul and make us smile.
