WHAT’S IN A NAME?

The Middle C note is the place from which music comes alive. The same can be said for Middle C Jazz, Charlotte’s newest stage for live jazz. Built by lifelong jazz devotees for curious newcomers and fellow fanatics alike, we will feature local, regional and national artists in a convergence of art, music and flavor. Whether you’re attending a show, hosting a private event or simply sipping a cocktail, here, every experience is constantly surprising yet consistently inspiring. Like the classic note itself, everything comes alive from here.

A LITTLE HISTORY.

Since opening its doors on November 1, 2019, Middle C Jazz has become a beloved hub for entertainment, community events, and cultural enrichment.

Entertainment booking agent mogul Larry Farber had a vision for Charlotte. A 1973 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, Larry Farber, Senior Partner at EastCoast Entertainment, helped open the Charlotte office, as it evolved into the country’s largest regional entertainment agency, one that books thousands of acts per year for weddings, country clubs, fairs, festivals, and parties of all kinds.

Farber retired from EastCoast Entertainment in 2019 and immediately dug into his decades long vision: to bring a world class club to Charlotte. Larry and sons Adam and Reid created the concept from the ground up, seeking high quality sound to support exceptional music, coupled with just the right ambiance and a perfect location.

Despite the COVID shutdown immediately after opening, Middle C Jazz is proud to have welcomed well over 4,000 musicians and 1,000 performances, representing an incredible breadth of music across its first five years. Middle C hosts local, regional and national names. Across any given month, Middle C showcases a huge variety of genres: smooth jazz, contemporary, classic rock, straight-ahead, blues, and more.

“Over the last five years at Middle C, I am most proud of the fact our music has brought together a diverse crowd who all share our love of music,” says Larry Farber.

Middle C Jazz is also thrilled to see the community acknowledging its impact on Charlotte music, voted Charlotte Observer 2024 “Best Live Music Venue” and Queen City Nerve 2024 “Best Place to Hear Jazz”.

Larry Farber, who has devoted his life to music, tells his story in Noted Memories – How A Kid From Charlotte Had A Moment With Tony, Aretha, Bonnie, Sheryl And More. Larry grew up playing in bands, performing at weddings and parties. He booked bands for a living, opened a private music club called Music With Friends and then Middle C Jazz Club in uptown Charlotte. It’s all here, plus 50 photos of Larry and various legends. Read about the night he convinced Aretha to take the stage after Whitney Houston died and lots more. The book celebrates the power of music to unite us.
