Regarded as a master of her craft, Althea Rene is one of the world’s most exciting solo improvisational soul-jazz flutists.
The title track to her 2013 project, “In the Flow,” made history as the first flute-featured single to be ranked number one on the Billboard and Smooth Jazz charts. Now, with 11 CDs under her belt, her latest 2025 EP, “18 Karate,” continues to showcase infectious soul, funk, and jazz through Althea’s unique flute harmonies and flawless improvisation.
She has performed in countries around the world, including South Africa, Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, Dubai, and islands throughout the Caribbean. Althea René is the first soul-jazz flutist ever featured on the prestigious Dave Koz Jazz Cruise. Between festivals and performances throughout the year, Althea René has hosted her own Annual Colors & Song Jazz Fest, with guests including saxophonist Jazmin Ghent, keyboardist Demetrius Nabors, and vocalist Erin Stevenson.
Althea René is the proud recipient of the 2021 Presidential Volunteer Service Award, which honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities and encourages those around them to take action. She is the Co-Founder of the non-profit organization Colors & Song, supporting students with a vision to educate, entertain, and inspire people with music and art. With a goal to mentor women in the entertainment industry, Althea René authored her 2018 autobiography, “Becoming Chocolate Barbie – A Guide for Professional Women in the Music Business.”
