Contemporary Jazz Billboard staples Art Sherrod Jr. and Althea René present their collaborative “Chocolate Soul” experience. While both are icons in their own right, the synergy between these two creates a soundscape both high-energy and deeply personal.
Althea René, a former Detroit police officer turned world-class flutist, brings a brilliant, soulful edge that perfectly complements Art Sherrod Jr.’s signature “Gospel-Jazz” saxophone style.
Joining Althea and Sherrod is bassist Kevin Jackson, rounding out a signature 3-Alarm Fire night.

Althea Rene is one of the world’s most exciting solo improvisational soul-jazz flutists.
The title track to her 2013 project, “In the Flow,” made history as the first flute-featured single to be ranked number one on the Billboard and Smooth Jazz charts. Now, with 11 CDs under her belt, her latest acclaimed 2025 EP, “18 Karate,” continues to showcase infectious soul, funk, and jazz through Althea’s unique flute harmonies and flawless improvisation.
