Gerald Albright, born and raised in Los Angeles, was an accomplished saxophonist well before he enrolled at the University of Redlands. Months after graduation, he joined jazz pianist and R&B singer Patrice Rushen; mid-tour, he stepped in for the bass player, finishing the run by showcasing his mastery of both the saxophone and bass. This versatility made him the consummate session and touring musician of the 1980s, working alongside icons ranging from Anita Baker, Ray Parker Jr., The Temptations, and Maurice White to Les McCann and Whitney Houston.

Albright launched his solo career during the infancy of the smooth jazz format and has since become a cornerstone of the genre. His career is defined by chart-topping albums, countless radio hits, and his presence on numerous all-star tours. In the late 1990s, he fronted a big band and toured the world with Phil Collins. His critical acclaim includes nine Grammy nominations; notably, he enjoyed back-to-back nods for his collaborations on the hits 24/7 with guitarist Norman Brown and Summer Horns by Dave Koz and Friends.

In recognition of his nearly four decades of musical excellence and his commitment to philanthropy, Albright was honored with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden in 2021. He continues to push the boundaries of his craft as an independent artist under his own label, Bright Music Records. His most recent project, the 2024 EP “Full Throttle” (the third installment of his G-Stream series), showcases his signature blend of deep funk and sophisticated soul, featuring collaborations with artists like Trombone Shorty.

“Whether in concert, listening to my music over the radio or CD player, I always want my listeners to be taken on a musical journey with different textures, rhythms, chord progressions and moods.” – Gerald Albright
