WITH SPECIAL GUEST ROBYN SPRINGER
A Middle C Jazz favorite, Charlotte-based vocalist Mandyl Evans returns to the stage for a soulful celebration of the legendary Teddy Pendergrass. Featuring special guest vocalist Robyn Springer, this high-energy, romantic tribute delivers the lush horn lines, deep-pocket Philly soul grooves, and iconic bedroom ballads—from “Love T.K.O.” to “Close the Door”—that defined an era of sophisticated R&B. As the definitive voice of late-1970s romance, Pendergrass reshaped modern soul music with his raw, masculine vocal power and historic run of consecutive multi-platinum albums, creating a timeless blueprint for contemporary R&B showmanship.
The evening will also feature a special musical tribute to Peabo Bryson. Globally revered as the “Pavarotti of Soul,” Bryson’s beautifully rich, operatic voice and iconic chart-topping duets cemented him as a premiere architect of the contemporary ballad and the definitive soundtrack for generations of listeners.
Mandyl Evans was born into a singing family and developed his skills singing in his mother’s gospel choir at The United House of Prayer and traveling around the country spreading the Gospel. Mandyl is the nephew of Rhythm & Blues singer Wilbert Harrison (Kansas City Here I Come) and the cousin of the Gospel great John P Kee. In the 90’s Mandyl started his own band The Mandyl Evans Group and performed as the opening act for Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and the Ohio Players. Mandyl has also toured singing background with R&B singers Stephanie Mills and Calvin Richardson.
