PASQUALE GRASSO
“The most significant new guy I’ve heard in many, many years.”— Pat Metheny
Born in Italy and now based in New York City, Pasquale Grasso has developed an astounding technique and concept informed by bebop pioneers like Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie, and the classical guitar tradition. While many modern players share a similar contemporary sound, Grasso has captured the essence of the piano language from the midcentury masters, melding it into a signature mastery that isunprecedented and evocative.
Grasso’s approach to solo arranging equals that of Art Tatum, featuring an immaculately balanced tone, tasteful tinges of stride, and stunning single-note lines. This “jaw-dropping” ability earned him the 2015 Wes Montgomery International Jazz Guitar Competition, the 2024 DownBeat Critics Poll “Rising Star” Guitarist of the Year, public mentorship of Pat Metheny, and a Grammy Award for his work on Samara Joy’s 2022 album, Linger Awhile.
Pasquale Grasso has shared the stage with legends including Pat Martino, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Charles Davis, and recently performed at the Kennedy Center to honor Pat Metheny. Often showcasing his sweeping abilities in the solo-guitar format, his discography includes the acclaimed Pasquale Plays Duke (2021) and his 2025 dual-release: the trio-led Fervency and the solo tour-de-force Solo Be-Bop!
Whether performing at his regular Greenwich Village haunt, Mezzrow, or on international stages, Grasso’s virtuoso style transcends the traditional boundaries of jazz guitar.
