Since his professional debut in 2001, Elan Trotman has shared his own style of contemporary jazz as a saxophonist, composer, and educator. Born and raised in Barbados—the native island of pop icon Rihanna—Trotman’s musical identity is a rich tapestry of Caribbean culture and world-class technical precision.

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music in 2001, Trotman spent a decade balancing a dual life: shaping young minds as an educator in Boston Public Schools while simultaneously ascending the jazz charts. His breakthrough debut, Memories, served as the springboard for a career that has since produced over 10 solo albums and more than 15 Billboard-charting singles, including hits like “As,” “Thoughts of Summer,” and “Tradewinds.”
Trotman’s 25-year journey is marked by prestigious accolades, including multiple “Jazz Artist of the Year” honors from both the New England Urban Music Awards and the Barbados Music Awards. His collaborative spirit has led him to share the stage and studio with industry titans such as Jeffrey Osborne, Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson, and Peter White.
Beyond the stage, Trotman is a dedicated philanthropist. He is the founder of the Never Lose Your Drive Foundation, which supports the Headstart Music Program in Barbados, providing free instrument instruction to children. He also serves as the executive producer of the Barbados Jazz Excursion, an annual festival that fuses his love for music, golf, and his home island.
