Paul Taylor is a highly acclaimed American smooth jazz alto and soprano saxophonist, renowned for his soulful and sensuous sound.
Taylor has forged an enviable career with a string of Billboard #1 hits, establishing himself as a “true icon” in the smooth jazz genre. His musical style blends elements of smooth jazz, urban jazz, funk, and electronic/pop, characterized by his superb tone and phrasing, dynamic performances, and a knack for creating infectious melodies. He often explores grittier rhythms, including hip-hop, dancehall, and house music, to support his horn melodies, consistently pushing his creative boundaries.
Throughout his career, Taylor has collaborated with a diverse array of musicians, including Regina Belle, Maxi Priest, Peabo Bryson, Keiko Matsui, The Rippingtons, Peter White, Euge Groove, Michael Lington, Jamie Jones, and Marion Meadows.
His latest album, It’s A Brand New Day, released in February 2025, marks his thirteenth recording as a leader. This album features nine original tracks and a captivating Billie Eilish cover, showcasing collaborations with long-time friends and producers Dino Esposito and Barry Eastmond. Taylor himself describes the album as signifying “a new cycle” and aiming to give fans an “optimistic outlook.”
