Chris O’Leary and his blues ensemble hail from New York, but there’s more than a trace of New Orleans in his music. O’Leary, who sings and plays harp and mandolin, and his band has a laid-back sound, but their solid groove, tight playing and O’Leary’s superlative songwriting make them a powerful unit.
A member of the late Levon Helm’s backing band the Barnstormers, Chris O’Leary has played with a formidable number of iconic musicians: Rolling Stones sideman Bobby Keys, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jeff Healy, Albert Lee, the great James Cotton, and many more. Chris has also recorded with Bill Perry and Hubert Sumlin, among others.
The Chris O’Leary Band’s debut CD “Mr. Used to Be” won the 2011 Best New Artist Debut CD Blues Blast Award and was nominated for best new artist debut at the 2011 American Blues Music Awards.
Most recent 2024 release “The Hard Line” commands the attention you expect from this athletic framed Marine-Vet who sings originals that often come directly from his colorful and sometimes harrowing life experiences. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard blues charts and reached #1 on virtually every radio chart in the US and abroad
