Rebecca Jade, Breakout Artist with the Poise of a Veteran
Returning to Middle C August 8
Rebecca Jade is considered both new to the scene, and at the same time an accomplished singer/songwriter who has turned her love for music into a career for close to two decades.
Rebecca’s mother was also a vocalist, so her musical interests might stem from that early exposure to a range of artists, genres and styles, or it might just be natural.
Rebecca has a love of the Arts community as a whole. She went to UC Berkeley on a full basketball scholarship, all the while, toting a journal in her backpack, to hold her thoughts, feelings, reflections and experiences in the form of poetry and song lyrics, as she worked toward her degree in Theatre & Performance Studies. Eventually, some of those notes have made it to the light as lyrics in her newest album.
Putting her performing arts studies to work, Rebecca is an actor, sprinkling her career with roles from SDG&E, Pechanga Casino, Qualcomm and UCSD. She was featured as a singer in the 2013 film, “5 Hour Friends” (starring Tom Sizemore). She is also a pin-up model for vintage-inspired clothing and had a principal role in the musical R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
As a recording studio vocalist, Rebecca’s experience spans back 30 years. She has sung background vocals, demos and jingles on many different projects, including projects with Kiko Cibrián (Luis Miguel) and Kevin Flournoy (Chaka Khan), and has been featured in a variety of notable works, including being featured on two songs on DW3’s self-titled album that went #1 on the UK Soul Charts in 2020, and singing backing vocals on Aubrey Logan’s 2nd full-length album, Where the Sunshine is Expensive, which went #1 on the Billboard charts in 2019.
Rebecca Jade’s vocal versatility has allowed her a variety of unique opportunities to perform, from the official singer of the San Diego Gulls NHL hockey team’s anthem in 2015, to guest artist on the Dave Koz Cruises beginning 2016, to touring with the Queen of Percussion, Sheila E. since 2017.
Rebecca Jade has performed with some of the most sought-after musicians all over the world. She opened for Will Downing and Boney James and for Jeffrey Osborne in 2019. She followed that up in 2020 singing background vocals for Sir Elton John at the 2020 Academy Awards and appearing in the CBS Emmy-nominated show, “Let’s Go Crazy: The GRAMMY Salute to Prince”. Rebecca has been a featured artist on many of Eric Darius’ 2022 tour dates.
All the while, Rebecca has been performing her own music and developing her own voice. Rebecca released her debut album collaboration in 2011, titled The Jade Element. As front-woman for the soul/funk band Rebecca Jade & the Cold Fact, the band collectively earned four San Diego Music Awards from 2014 through 2017.
Rebecca’s 2018 project, an album of Cole Porter classics, titled Planet Cole Porter, with arranger/producer/jazz guitar virtuoso Peter Sprague, earned them a 2018 San Diego Music Award for “Best Jazz Album”. Accolades kept coming, with “Artist of the Year” for 2020 and “Song of the Year” for 2021.
With the October 2022 drop of album “Shade of Jade” October 2022, Rebecca Jade earned another two San Diego Music Awards for “Best Music Video” & “Best R&B/Funk/Soul Song” for “What’s It Gonna Be”, her first single off the album.
In “Shade of Jade”, which features both Dave Koz and Eric Darius on two of the songs, Rebecca created ten R&B, jazz and pop songs that she wrote and co-produced with Carnell Harrell. While the Urban Music Scene dubs her a new singer-songwriter, They notably recognize “the poise, power and purpose of a seasoned veteran in her prime”.
