Kim Scott

Spotlight on: Flutist Kim Scott

SMOOTH JAZZ NETWORK 2024 “ARTIST OF THE YEAR”

Performances: Friday, March 28

March, 2025 –

From her 2011 debut album, “Crossing Over,” to her #1 Billboard charting 2022 album, “SHINE,” and just released album “Livin’ It Up”, Kim Scott has impressed audiences across the globe in performances and on the airwaves. Known for her exceptional tone, intoxicating melodies, and flawless technique, she is one of the most sought-after flutists in both the classical and jazz fields.

The contemporary jazz superstar has an ever-growing fan base, garnered from her continued presence on the performance scene and from her visibility as the radio host of the nationally syndicated, two-hour jazz program, “Kim Scott’s Block Party Radio,” which airs weekly across the world. She’s a fresh image and sound for today’s contemporary jazz scene.

With five albums to her credit, Kim Scott has become influential as a soloist and collaborator. Ronald Jackson, journalist for The Smooth Jazz Ride, states, “Artists like Kim Scott bring an exuberance to an art form long prophesied to be a thing of the past in short order by critics. When you listen to the Pied Piper-like allure and magic of her style, you come to the conclusion that those critics couldn’t be further from the truth.” Her collaborations include performances and recordings with Jonathan Fritzen, James Lloyd, Jazmin Ghent, Greg Manning, and others.

Kim Scott has performed on the stages of Blues Alley, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz, Catalina Jazztrax, and more as a soloist. She is also a member of the all-female jazz supergroup Jazz in Pink, alongside other musicians such as keyboardist Gail Johnson and violinist Karen Briggs, and has shared the stage with them across the country.

Kim’s sixth album, “Livin’ It Up,” released just a few weeks ago. The title is a direct reflection of her spirit of joy, and the set of songs reflects her diversity of musical style. From the exotic Spanish “Alma de Lisbon” to the funky Miles Davis/Herb Alpert mashup “So What if I Rise?” to the African beats of the inspiring women’s anthem “You Got the Power,” Kim Scott’s personality shines through.
