The Story of Jazz Funk Soul
Thursday, July 11 at 6:15 & 8:30pm
Friday, July 12 at 6:30 & 8:45pm
Wednesday, July 3 – Smooth jazz supergroup Jazz Funk Soul formed in the mid-2010s as a live touring ensemble featuring the talents of veteran musicians Jeff Lorber (keyboards), Chuck Loeb (guitar), and Everette Harp (saxophone). Prior to joining forces, the members had each distinguished themselves as regulars on the smooth jazz charts.
Grammy winning keyboardist, composer, and producer Jeff Lorber has inspired legions of musicians for over five decades. A groundbreaking Fender Rhodes pioneer along with Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample and Bob James, Jeff Lorber is also one of the most in-demand producers in Contemporary Jazz. Lorber released his 30th album of originals as a leader in September 2023. For more on Jeff’s storied career and music, visit his website.
Most musicians can reach back and find a turning point moment when they realized exactly what their lives would be about. Everette Harp only remembers that he always played music. He says, “It was just like breathing for me.” As the 90’s progressed and smooth jazz artists began incorporating more hip-hop and classic R&B grooves, Everette Harp found himself ahead of the curve. Harp has performed at the 1993 Inaugural ball, weekly with The Posse on The Arsenio Hall Show, is heard on theme songs like Entertainment Tonight, and performed with an impressively long list of superstars. Check out Everette Harp’s music on YouTube.
Grammy nominated guitarist, composer, and producer, Chuck Loeb has been known as a “renaissance man” in the music world. He is a #1 jazz recording artist; composer of over 250 published songs, network television show themes and scores; and producer of over thirty world-renowned recording artists. More about Chuck Loeb’s career on his website.
Tragically, Loeb succumbed to cancer in July 2017. After his passing, guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. joined Jazz Funk Soul for their next two albums, both of which honored Loeb and continued to showcase the trio’s hooky, groove-oriented sound.
Paul Jackson, Jr. is arguably the most recorded guitarist in history and has contributed his creative fingerprint to the rare elite of music, including Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, “American Idol,” the Oscars, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, and much more. Head to Paul Jackson Jr’s YouTube channel for some great grooves or a video lesson on creating those great grooves.
As a trio, Jazz Funk Soul has been recognized with a Grammy nomination, released multiple albums, and continues to tour to sold-out crowds. Hear them this July 11 and 12 at Middle C Jazz. TICKETS…
