Formed in Philadelphia in the mid-1970s by high school classmates Curtis Harmon and James Lloyd, Pieces of a Dream is a landmark contemporary jazz group that helped shape the smooth jazz sound with their seamless blend of R&B, funk, and soul.
Discovered while still in their teens by saxophone legend Grover Washington Jr.—who mentored the group and produced their first three albums—they quickly earned high praise across the music world. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, the band has sold more than three million albums worldwide and created enduring radio classics such as “Warm Weather,” “Mount Airy Groove,” and “Fo Fi Fo.” Reviewers and industry peers have long celebrated their technical polish and infectious groove, with JazzTimes noting that “their blend of smooth jazz, funk, and soul has kept them at the forefront of the genre for decades.”
Continuing their prolific run as they approach their 50th anniversary, the band released their 26th studio project, We Got This (2025), driven by its upbeat title single and showcasing the enduring creative chemistry that maintains their standing as staples of contemporary jazz.
