RUBEN STUDDARD
American R&B, pop, and gospel singer Ruben Studdard rose to national fame as the winner of the second season of American Idol in 2003. Dubbed “The Velvet Teddy Bear” for his smooth vocals and warm stage presence, he earned a Grammy nomination for his cover of “Superstar” and went on to release multiple hit studio albums, including Soulful and I Need an Angel. Beyond his solo recording career, Studdard has starred in musical theater tours—such as playing Fats Waller in Ain’t Misbehavin’—and frequently tours nationwide, celebrating the music of Luther Vandross and reuniting for joint tours with fellow Idol finalist Clay Aiken.
