Morgan James is a powerhouse vocalist, songwriter, and actress celebrated for her captivating blend of soul, R&B, and jazz. Born in Idaho, and raised in California, her passion for performance ignited early, nurtured by her educator and actor parents and fueled by a childhood karaoke machine. She began formal voice lessons at thirteen, developing a remarkable vocal range that extends from C3 to F#6.

A Juilliard-trained singer, James studied opera before pivoting to musical theater and ultimately carving out a unique niche in soul and R&B. She frequently performs as a symphony pops soloist, bringing her unique sound to classical audiences worldwide. Her transition between classical training and contemporary genres showcases her exceptional versatility and deep musicality.

Her dynamic career includes five Broadway productions, where she notably appeared in the original casts of The Addams Family, Wonderland, and Motown: The Musical, as well as the acclaimed revival of Godspell. These roles honed her stage presence and vocal stamina, earning her a reputation as a commanding performer.

Beyond the stage, James is an independent recording artist with a discography that showcases her versatility. Her full-length debut, Hunter (2014), was lauded by critics, with The New York Times calling her “a phenomenal talent whose feel for classic soul music is bone deep.” Her subsequent album, Reckless Abandon (2017), prompted the Huffington Post to name her the “Brightest Breakout Artist of the Year.” In addition, James has released celebrated tributes to legendary artists, including Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell. Her independent releases continue to explore her influences, with albums like Memphis Magnetic and her latest, Nobody’s Fool, showcasing a return to her R&B roots.
