The Power of the Team: Carolina-based Saxophone Trio DSG

THREE SAXOPHONES, ONE SOUL

At Middle C, teamwork is the engine that keeps us running. From the booking team curating leading artists, to publicity making sure you know about them, to the box office helping people navigate the club, to top tier sound and light crew, to restaurant service, … it goes on and on. Every part moves in sync to create an unforgettable night. When one piece is off, the experience suffers.

The same is true on stage. While solo artists are brilliant, the true spirit of jazz lives in the collaboration of a tight ensemble.

DSG (Darius Starks, Steven Galloway, and David Glymph) is the definition of a cohesive unit. Often called the “sexy sax trio,” these South Carolina natives have mastered the art of three-part harmony. They don’t just play alongside each other; they enhance one another, reimagining 80s and 90s R&B hits with a lush, infectious energy.

Formed in the summer of 2023, DSG emerged from a desire to combine their individual talents to create something unique. Alto Saxophonist Darius Starks, a 2016 graduate of Newberry College, had already established himself as a prominent solo performer with a residency at Halls Chophouse in Columbia, SC. Having crossed paths with Tenor Saxophonist Steven Galloway and David Glymph over the years, the trio joined forces
.
“We get a lot further with us coming together,” Starks noted regarding the formation of the group. Their chemistry was immediate, allowing them to transform familiar, slow-tempo ballads into vibrant, sax-driven arrangements. Their viral covers of classics like Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You” and SWV’s “Weak” proved that three saxophones could harmonize with the soul of a vocal group.

A DSG show is immersive, blending smooth jazz with soulful anthems that practically demand you dance and sing along. Which makes you part of the team! Your job? Grab your tickets to February 12th, bring your energy, and help us welcome DSG to the stage.

GO TEAM!
