DISCOVERING THE MUSICAL GEMS OF THE CAROLINAS

The Charlotte music scene finds a reliable center of gravity in the artistry of multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer Nero Tindal IV. Blending soulful roots with a modern, versatile mastery of the fretboard, Tindal has carved out a distinct niche within the Queen City’s live music community.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, into a musical family, Tindal’s earliest experiences were steeped in rhythm. He began as a drummer in his father’s gospel quartet, an experience that instilled in him a foundational understanding of groove and ensemble communication. It was during his enlistment in the U.S. Army that his creative trajectory pivoted; trading drumsticks for strings, Tindal picked up the guitar and began his development into an expressive lead guitarist, vocalist, and producer.

Today, his music bridges traditional Black American music and contemporary neo-soul, channeling the sultry vibes of the late-1990s golden era. He frequently brings his high-energy “Sonic Funky Soul Concerts” to vibrant local and regional stages, attracting sold-out crowds to a fully immersive performance.

Tindal’s technical proficiency and stage charisma have led to numerous television appearances, extensive touring, and notable milestones, including contributing to a Grammy-nominated project. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage and studio with R&B hitmakers and icons such as Betty Wright, 112, and Bobby Brown.

Despite working alongside national figures, Tindal’s connection to the local music ecosystem remains personal. He is a dedicated community builder and the driving force behind The Artist Collective, a collaborative project designed to foster an inclusive environment where local musicians, poets, and creatives can jam and share ideas.

Melding elements of funk, R&B, and jazz with spoken-word poetry, Tindal’s compositions reflect everyday realities. His appreciation for the genre-defining sounds of the Soulquarians is apparent in his rhythmic choices, combining rich, live instrumentation with contemporary production. Looking ahead, Tindal is set to bring this sound to the stage with the release of his debut EP in the summer of 2026.

Tindal debuts his high-energy, immersive grooves at Middle C Jazz on Wednesday, July 8, for Soulquarian Love: An Evening of Soul, Rhythm and Connection. As the local scene continues to evolve, Nero Tindal IV remains a key talent cultivating the vibrant sound of Charlotte.
